Intrinsic reward: potential cognitive and neural mechanisms

چکیده
From child play to scientific discovery, many activities human engage in are rewarding and of themselves. Here, we ask what makes such intrinsically rewarding. Based on the existing literature propose answer is an increased sense self-efficacy. That is, activity that one strengthens a person’s belief they can execute actions required successfully deal with prospective situations. We show this notion explain nature situations from solving cross word puzzles helping others, consuming arts playing sports. suggest processes lead self-efficacy, as executing agency learning, activate neural reward system. This turn experienced pleasure reinforces generated response. Intrinsic rewards would biological organism improve their knowledge skills which could help them adapt changing environments.

Neural mechanisms of reward-related motor learning.
The analysis of the neural mechanisms responsible for reward-related learning has benefited from recent studies of the effects of dopamine on synaptic plasticity. Dopamine-dependent synaptic plasticity may lead to strengthening of selected inputs on the basis of an activity-dependent conjunction of sensory afferent activity, motor output activity, and temporally related firing of dopamine cells...

cognitions (e.g., cognitive interference), and affect (e.g., positive mood) while performing. We suggest, then, that positive and negative effects are related over time and occur within a self-regulatory process (Sansone & Harackiewicz, 1996; Sansone, Weir, Harpster, & Morgan, 1992). Eisenberger and Cameron (1996) provided a service in cautioning investigators and practitioners against oversimp...
متن کاملCommon Neural Mechanisms Underlying Reversal Learning by Reward and Punishment
Impairments in flexible goal-directed decisions, often examined by reversal learning, are associated with behavioral abnormalities characterized by impulsiveness and disinhibition. Although the lateral orbital frontal cortex (OFC) has been consistently implicated in reversal learning, it is still unclear whether this region is involved in negative feedback processing, behavioral control, or bot...
متن کاملNeural Mechanisms Underlying Time Perception and Reward Anticipation
Findings suggest that the physiological mechanisms involved in the reward anticipation and time perception partially overlap. But the systematic investigation of a potential interaction between time and reward systems using neuroimaging is lacking. Eighteen healthy volunteers (all right-handed) participated in an event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) experiment that employs...
متن کاملNeural Mechanisms of Circadian Regulation of Natural and Drug Reward
Circadian rhythms are endogenously generated near 24-hour variations of physiological and behavioral functions. In humans, disruptions to the circadian system are associated with negative health outcomes, including metabolic, immune, and psychiatric diseases, such as addiction. Animal models suggest bidirectional relationships between the circadian system and drugs of abuse, whereby desynchrony...
